Any DC/VA people?

Hello all! Anyone know of if there are any groups or events in the area Northern VA and DC area for Victorian/Steampunk/sewing. I would love to be able to to hangout with people who know enough about sewing to "talk shop" or likes to dress up. I'm confined to things that are Metro accessib...

Re: What do you use for tracing patterns

I use 19"x24" tracing paper that comes in pads from an art supply store. If a pattern piece is larger than that I'll just tape them together. I'll use the traced copy as my master pattern and make changes to it rather than the original. I fold them up for storage for the most part since th...

Re: TV560 Sizing

I've started working on my coat and have pictures of the first mockup. This is the straight size A back/side back and size I front with the default dart sizes. The mock up is worn over a suit coat to add bulk. I've pinned up the back and front so that the waist line of the coat is at my waistline. O...

Re: TV560 Sizing

Glad to hear I was over-thinking it for the front hips. As for height, I usually end up needing to shorten the front between the bust and shoulders area so I'll keep an eye out for that in the back as well. For the back width - I've made other TV patterns with the size A back before and that seemed ...

TV560 Sizing

I'm making TV560 as a winter coat and had a question about the sizing. My measurements are: Bust 40" Full hip 42.5" High hip 40" Waist 28" Back Width 11" Back Length 14.5" For the pattern sizing that give me a size A back and side back and a size I front. I noticed in t...

Hello from Boston

Hi all, I've just moved to the Boston area and was wondering if there are any groups or events in the area for Victorian/Steampunk/sewing. I would love to be able to to hangout with people who know enough about sewing to "talk shop". I would also love any recommendations for fabric stores....

I thought it was a nice touch to break up all the white. It's actually from an embroidered organza I had left over from an earlier project. I cut it out the embroidery and then sewed it on by hand.

Re: Wedding dress

Thanks!

I went through several mock-ups to make sure the fit was good. The end result is that there is just enough room to button the button at the waist which keeps it from moving.

Also, the fabrics themselves are very light, it's silk dupoini flatlined to silk organza.

Re: TV110 cup sizing question

Been sewing up a storm and have a mostly done corset. I ended up cutting the DD-D, C, F. The fit is good other than the top. I think I need to go down in size on the upper back as the upper front seems to fit alright but the back parts touch. I put more information on it on my blog, including pictur...

Re: TV110 cup sizing question

So I ended up cutting the DD-D, D, and F for my mock-up. I put in a piece in the back for a 2" gap and pinned it in the front. I also sewed in channels for some spiral boning at the seams using the seam allowance. Right now my waist measurement is about the same as my natural one. I haven't sho...

Re: TV110 cup sizing question

I can definitely cut D if that would work better. I had picked C as I'm able to easily and comfortable corset to 27" in my old corset which is way too small at the hip. I thought I had remembered that the waist would go in more once there was ample room for the hips.

TV110 cup sizing question

After deciding that the corset I have just isn't cutting it, I'm attempting the TV 110. I'm getting stuck at figuring out what size to cut for the bust. My natural measurements, triple-checked, are: Bust: 40" (underbust 30") Waist: 29" High Hip: 42" Length: 8" The instructio...

Re: TV 416 Fit Issues

Am I doing the shifting on the pattern or the garment? If it's the garment, are these the steps? 1. Mark out the extra at the armpit. 2. Cut a line from the point of the extra armpit and the second side dart. 3. move so the edges of the extra armpit are together then resew the second side dart. 4. r...

Re: TV 416 Fit Issues

I've re sewn the darts to take up the extra fabric and it's much better except for a bit of puckering at the armpit/bustline. Should I just put small sideways darts there to take up the little bit of extra? Also, do you havea recommendation for a which size front I should cut next time I make this p...

Re: TV 416 Fit Issues

Had to run out the door earlier and didn't explain what I was asking very well. I realise the extra is going to be shifted to the darts, I just had it pinned there to show how much extra there was after removing some excess fabric. I still have a lot of extra fabric starting just below the bust. The...

Re: TV 416 Fit Issues

Okay, I sewed down about 2 5/8" extra fabric on each side of the middle (that's from the left edge to the right edge) with 3/4" from the edge to sewing line. http://lh6.ggpht.com/_aQUyU36ucfg/TDjX_uYb_QI/AAAAAAAADcM/3ZUsZhidK34/s288/DSCF2492.JPG I then put back in the darts (using the E se...

TV 416 Fit Issues

Having fit issues with TV 416. According to my measurements and pattern sizing I'm a back size C and front H with a waist measurement of 27 1/2" (bust 39 3/4" and back width 12 5/8"; 17" adj back and 22 3/4" adj front). My issue is the that adjusting the darts (they are each...
